Battery-Equipped Instrument Hong Kong Truck Substitute for Air Freight
Published on May 26, 2025
Project Background
The client needed to move a batch of battery-equipped instruments from a Beijing bonded warehouse to the client’s Hong Kong warehouse. Because the client could not provide the battery appraisal report mandatory for air or ocean transport, neither conventional air nor ocean channels could be used, and the cargo was at risk of being stranded.
Solution
After verification, the battery capacity met road transport safety requirements and no additional appraisal report was needed. We developed the following alternative plan:
- Pickup from Beijing bonded warehouse: Completed pickup and exit procedures at the Beijing bonded warehouse.
- Domestic transport to Shenzhen: Arranged overland transport from Beijing to the Shenzhen port.
- Cross-border truck transit: At Shenzhen, transferred to a dual-license China-Hong Kong truck and, via Huanggang / Shenzhen Bay port, delivered directly to the client’s designated Hong Kong warehouse — with no battery appraisal report required along the way.
Project Results
- Cost savings: Compared with air freight, total logistics cost was reduced by about 50%.
- Time advantage: End-to-end overland transport took about 4-5 days, slower than air freight but much faster than ocean freight (typically 7-14 days), balancing speed and cost.
- Qualification barrier bypassed: Successfully circumvented the air/ocean restriction caused by the missing battery appraisal report, ensuring smooth delivery of the cargo.
